One Win Choice (Philadelphia natives Dan Kloza, Justin Stevenson, Justin Phillips, Dave Aon, and Pete Pie) has released their second LP, entitled Conveyor, and the only term I can think of to describe it is: “it’s a doozy”. The band packs 13 songs into a 33 minute album, resulting in a relentless tsunami of riffs and roars that will undoubtedly leave you with a head-banging induced migraine.

From beginning to end, it is clear that every member pours absolutely all that they have into their performance, producing an energy and sound very similar to Circa Survive and Fugazi, two of the most respected groups in whatever genre you want to call this music (names range anywhere from post-hardcore to pronk, among dozens of other essentially meaningless labels.) Sadly, this energy is cut short in almost every song. With no tracks over three and a half minutes, the album passes far too quickly, with little time to fully appreciate the power of One Win Choice’s sophomore album. Still, this passion is not wasted in any way: the band manages to bundle as much depth and force into their record that other groups have to do in an hour or more.

One Win Choice describes itself as “punk” and “hardcore”. Personally, these labels do not do the band justice. While the level of energy and passion put into every song is certainly equal to the greatest punk bands of all time, there is something more present. There is a unique harmony in the instrumentation that sets them apart from the jumbled cacophony that is the punk genre, with ups and downs that give a much more dynamic feel to the sound. You can call it whatever genre you want; the bottom line is that One Win Choice has made an excellent album, and you should experience it.
