A small legion of rock aficionados filled the venue, aiming to catch a show from one of metals most underrated and unappreciated outfits — Anvil.

Most of the fans at the show were gray with years of heavy metal scholarship (there were some irony-driven hipsters there as well), but the feeling was warm as the band took stage with the type of pure enthusiasm that only a band like Anvil can possess. Singer/guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow sported a smile that proved how appreciative he was to be playing.

The band blazed through their 14 album repertoire, entertaining the audience with solos from each member that could of been played in front of a stadium. “Lips” even took out a vibrating dildo on stage, using it to create sounds on his guitar that have probably never been heard before (Tom Morello might be jealous).

It’s hard to imagine a band more appreciative than Anvil. Glenn Five would posed for a concertgoer looking to get a picture of his favorite band, and Lips pointed to a member of the crowd that drove up to Toronto to see him and hang out, and he invited anyone who was willing to do the same.

Overall, it was a great show from a great band that deserves every bit of recognition it gets — and more.
