“Obstacle 1″ by Interpol (Glastonbury, 2005)

Interpol is an essential band, in terms of heralding guitar-driven indie rock back into mainstream independent culture. However, their position in indie rock history is largely overlooked, mostly because they’ve always been compared to The Strokes, another game changer for the sound.

Darker than their counterparts, the NYC-based band carries a sound that’s somewhere between technical rock and Morrissey-level emotion. With all but one of their albums out on independent labels (mostly Matador), they’ve also be proponents of indie rock.

So, for this week’s concert video, check out the band play “Obstacle 1″ off of 2002′s Turn on the Bright Lights.
