“Girl Inform Me” by The Shins (Glasgow, 2007)

“It’ll change your life, I swear.”

At least that’s what Natalie Portman said in Garden State, introducing The Shins to the world (OK, they may of been around before then, but you’ve got to give credit to Zach Braff for getting them really out there).

James Mercer and the gang recorded the lo-fi masterpiece that is  Oh, Inverted World in 2001 to critical acclaim. The album is wonderfully bright while mulling over darkness, and it’s on just about everyone’s top ten list — it’s possible to argue that the album even acted as a catalyst for an entire generation to enter the indie rock world in the first place.

With indie-rock standards like “Caring is Creepy” and “New Slang” on Oh, Inverted World, it’s easy to look over the other gems on the record, such as “Girl Inform Me.”

Check out the band play the song live in Glasgow in 2007.
