The Beta Band is one of the most overlooked rock outfits in the indie rock cannon.
While most of us in America were (shamelessly) introduced to them by way of High Fidelity, they produced some of the most original music in the late 90s-early 00s, fusing folk, electronica and rock seamlessly. Their 1998 compilation/album The Three EPs is essential for any indie rock aficionado.
Unfortunately, they disbanded in 2004, but their members have been pretty active since then. Lead singer Steve Mason, for one, just released the solid Boys Outside on Double Six/Domino a few months ago.
Start your week off right with “Dry the Rain,” and don’t be surprised if you find yourself chill-nodding the entire listen.
