Southeast Engine is a band under the radar. Having already released 4 albums, with a fifth on the way, they remain largely underground.
Hailing from Athens, Ohio, they formed in 1999 and have a sound somewhere between traditional underground indie and rural folk. Their upcoming album, Canary, tells a story of the struggles a Depression-era Appalachian family.
The results are pretty interesting. Subway Sessions caught up with them recently at the 4th Ave/9th St. FGR. Watch them play “Red Lake Shore” off of Canary.
